This Is Not an Adorno T-Shirt: New Adorno Biography and Review
This aurora I came across this transit from Adorno’s ushering in to Negative Applied logic:
The un-naive thinker knows how far he refuse from the object of his reasoning, and yet he must always talk as if he had it entirely. This brings him to the poing ot clowning. He must not declare to be untrue his clownish traits, least of all since they alone can give him trust for what is denied him. Science of causes principles is the most serious of things, but then again it is not all that serious.
It’s unyielding not to think of a undeniable Slovenian thinker when I peruse this, but from all accounts, Adorno was not a churl. Harvard UP has published a new work about Adorno by Detlev Claussen entitled Theodor Adorno: One Last Genuis (the HUP website has some exerpts). Here’s the blurb from Harvard Universal school Press:
He was famously unfriendly to biography as a of literature form. And yet this the vital spark of Adorno by one of his last students is far more than of literature in its accomplishments, giving us our first bright look at how the man and his twinkling met to create “exact theory.” An near picture of the quintessential twentieth-hundred transatlantic mental, the book is also a window on the cultural leaven of Adorno’s day—and its ongoing significance in our own. The biography begins at the beaming moment of the Born of the same father and mother bourgeoisie, in a cosmos dominated by liberals not averse to extend citizenship to refugees fleeing pogroms in Oriental Europe. Detlev Claussen follows Theodor Wiesengrund Adorno (1903–1969) from his privileged vitality as a beloved marvel to his intellectual approach of age in Weimar Germany and Vienna; from his ostracism during the Nazi years, first to England, then to the United States, to his emerging see the verb as the Adorno we apprehend now in the perhaps not-so-unlikely setting of Los Angeles. There in 1943 with his collaborator Max Horkheimer, Adorno developed accurate theory, whose key thorough knowledge—that to be entertained is to give one’s approval—helped fix the limits of the intellectual rural scene of the twentieth hundred. In capturing the man in his manifold relationships with some of the hundred’s finest minds—including, among others, Arnold Schoenberg, Walter Benjamin, Thomas Mann, Siegfried Kracauer, Georg Lukács, Hannah Arendt, and Bertolt Brecht—Claussen reveals how much we have yet to make one's self acquainted with from Theodor Adorno, and how much his vitality can tell us about ourselves and our duration.
